The Ancient Book

There is an Ancient Book
Come down from What above
Written to guide us well
Penned words of Love

Hard words, some, to grip!
Words to comfort, others,
And remedy the plight
Of human sisters and brothers

‘Failed!” we commonly cry
When circumspect and honest
“Redeemed!” bellows the Book-Beloved
Piercing through the tempest

Dusty Book is new and new
To every generation
Guiding forward, ever leading
Desire of every Nation

Dost thou hate thyself? Take heart
and read! It lifts thee from the ashes!
Art thou proud of thy accomplishments?
Thy haughty hopes It dashes!

Reading it builds the mind
Hearing it stokes the heart
Creating faith to see
A Kingdom set apart

Fail to daily dine upon
The Word, the Holy Diet
Fail to seize thy destiny
And soon ye wouldst deny it

Oh, the Book, the Ancient Book!
Encoded from the eyes
Of all except the ones who pour
And ponder besides
